About Dr Ning ZHANG
Dr. Zhang is a research assistant professor in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He earned his B.Eng. degree from Southeast University in 2013 and his Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2019. Prior to joining PolyU as a Research Assistant Professor, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Shantou University from 2019 to 2022. Dr. Zhang has dedicated over 10 years to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and geotechnical engineering. His current research interests encompass artificial intelligence in geotechnical engineering, intelligent computational geomechanics, Smart and sustainable shield tunnelling, Risk assessment, intelligent geotechnical design, subsurface geology modelling, and deep learning-based constitutive modeling. Dr Zhang has worked as a member of Chinese Subsociety for Intelligent Monitoring in Geoengineering since 2020, Early Career Board Member of Smart Construction and Sustainable Cities since 2023, and Young Editorial Board Member of Journal of Zhejiang University-SCIENCE A since 2025. He has published over 45 articles in top-tier international journals, with more than 1700 citations on Google Scholar and an h-index of 23.
